Overview:

God called Jonah to go to Nineveh to preach to the Gentiles. Jonah disobeyed and wentin the opposite direction aboard a ship. A storm came up and it was determined that theperilous situation was due to Jonah running from God. The crew threw Jonah overboard andGod caused Jonah to be swallowed by a large fish. Jonah repented and called out to God, soGod caused the fish to vomit Jonah on shore. Jonah obeyed God and went to Nineveh wherethe King and the whole city repented of their sins and believed in God. God did not thendestroy the city which made Jonah angry for they were enemies of the Jews. Jonah isolatedhimself from the city in his anger and God showed him, by way of a worm and a gourd, thatGod’s mercy is great and longsuffering toward his wayward creation, man.
