The majority of the New Testament is in the form of letters written by the Apostle Paul.
- Galatians
- The Theme and Major Highlights:
- This book is a letter written by Paul to the Galatian church. It was written primarily to the “carnal” Christian. The style is an argument of defense.
- A reproof or correction for not living according to the doctrine given in the book of Romans concerning a doctrinal error
- Unshackled from legalism and the law
- The role of faith in the Christian life
- Christ in the Book of Galatians:
- Christ is the Redeemer from the curse of the Law.
The Significance for the Christian Life:
When the new believer begins to live the Christian life, well-meaning people tell him what he can and cannot do. Legalism causes the believer to be bound by mans laws of dos and donts.
Ephesians
The Theme and Major Highlights:
This book is a letter written by Paul to the Ephesian church. It was written primarily to the “spiritual” Christian (the Christian who is led by the Holy Spirit).
This is a book of doctrine and instruction: Building up the Body of Christ
The mystery of the unity of Christs church is revealed.
Possessing the riches of Christ
The believers position in Christ
Spiritual warfare
Marriage and family relationships
Christ in the Book of Ephesians:
Jesus Christ is the Possessor of unsearchable riches.
The Significance for the Christian Life:
The more the Christian comes to know Christ, the more he discovers the unsearchable riches that Christ wants him to possess.
Philippians
- The Theme and Major Highlights:
This book is a letter written by Paul to the church at Philippi. It was primarily written to the “spiritual” Christian.
This book is a reproof or correction for not living according to the doctrine in Ephesians: A Practical Failure.
This is often called the letter of joy because it tells you how to be content in any circumstance.
The nature of trusting faith in action
Solving the emotional problems of the Christian life
Christ in the book of Philippians:
Christ is the God who supplies all our needs.
The Significance for the Christian Life:
The Christian, living the Christian life, soon learns to trust Christ for more and more areas of his life. As he does that, his faith is built, and he has a sense of contentment no matter what are the external conditions of life.
Colossians
The Theme and Major Highlights:
This book is a letter written by Paul to the Colossian church. It was primarily written to the “spiritual” Christian.
This book is a reproof or correction for not living according to the doctrine in Ephesians: A Doctrinal Error
Avoiding false legalistic teachers

Christ in the Book of Colossians:
Christ is the fullness of the Godhead bodily. He is our commander-in-chief.
The Significance for the Christian Life:
The Christian soon leans there are competing interpretations, various church doctrines, true and false teachers. How do you tell what is truth? Christ and His Word are the only truth.
1 and 2 Thessalonians
The Theme and Major Highlights:
These two books were written by Paul to the church in Thessalonica.
These two books are doctrine, instruction, and correction.

Christ in the books of 1 and 2 Thessalonians:
Christ is our soon coming King.
The Significance for the Christian Life:
As the Christian gets his life together, the Lord impresses upon him to get busy in putting his faith in action by serving Christ.
1 and 2 Timothy
The Theme and Major Highlights:
These two books are letters written by Paul to a young pastor, Timothy, in charge of the church at Ephesus.
These are called pastoral letters.
These are books of instruction about church order and false doctrine.
A church leadership manual
Christ in the books of 1 and 2 Timothy:
Christ is our Mediator between God and Man.
The Significance for the Christian Life:
Mature Christians are called to serve God in areas of leadership. Achieving the level of qualified leadership is the goal of Christians that want to serve God.
Titus
The Theme and Major Highlights:
This is a pastoral letter written by Paul to Titus, a Gentile pastor on the Island of Crete.
This book is a conduct manual of church order.
The duties of a faithful pastor
The high and trustworthy character of church leaders
Avoiding hatred, church arguments, and church divisions
Christ in the Book of Titus:
Christ is the faithful Pastor.
The Significance for the Christian Life:
The Christian in the church should learn to become part of the answer and not part of the problem.
Types of Bible Study Methods:
Jonah 3
- In the same way that you studied chapter one and chapter two of the book of Jonah, you will study chapter 3.
Homework:
- Work on your Spiritual Diary for 15 minutes for 6 days.
- You have established a good pattern. Keep it up!
- Continue the Personal Concordance.
- Use the Comprehensive Book Analysis: Chapter Analysis sheets #C and #D
Jonah 3
- Day 1 = Read the whole book of Jonah.
- Day 2 = Read Jonah chapter 3. Work on the “Chapter Analysis” on page #C.
- “Passage Description”
- Summarize the chapter in your own words. Do not interpret what is being said here or why. Only state the facts.
- Day 3 = Read Jonah chapter 3 through and meditate on it verse by verse. Write on a separate piece of paper any outstanding observations.
- Day 4 = Read Jonah chapter 3. Complete the two left hand columns on sheet #D using the notes you wrote from the previous day.
- Notice that in the left two columns one is titled “Verse”. This is the verse that relates to the observation you made.
- Day 5 = Read Jonah chapter 3. Fill out the two right hand columns on sheet #D.
- Notice that in the right two columns, one is titled, “Verse”. This is the verse that prompts any questions or problems that occur.
- Day 6 = Read Jonah chapter 3. Finish any area of this study that needs more work.
