- The Definition of the Gift of Ruling (Facilitating):
- The Greek word literally means to stand in front of others. Therefore, it has the idea of a leader, a ruler, a protector, or a champion.
- Characteristics of the Gift of Ruling (Facilitating):
- Organization and Challenge:
- The person with this gift organizes everything around him.
- He makes lists and writes notes of things to do.
- He has a creative desire to take raw materials and people to produce new things.
- When the job is completed and running smoothly, he will turn the leadership over to another person and move on to a new challenge.
- This person does not like repetitive work because there is no challenge to his creativity.
- Leadership:
- The person with this gift recognizes the importance of leadership and likes to be under proper authority.
- He will not deliberately challenge existing authority.
- This person will use his gift when the people in authority over him request it. His gift remains unused if the leaders do not recognize his gift and determine to use it.
- When asked or if there is no visible leadership, he will assume leadership and take charge.
- This person enjoys governing people and delegating tasks.
- The person with this gift does not do well in team leadership rolls or co-leadership roles.
- Goals:
- God has given this person an ability to set realistic long-term goals.
- This person prefers long-term goals. In this way he is different from the person with the gift of serving that prefers short-term goals.
- The person with the gift of ruling or facilitating will establish short-term goals along the way, but always he has the long-term goal in mind.
- This person will put all of his effort into reaching the goal.
- He will even allow other people to get the credit if it means the goal will be met.
- He sees success as a collective achievement.
- This person does not like delays, red-tape, or distractions that sidetrack people from the goal.
- He prefers to see projects accomplished as quickly as possible.
- Vision (Pro 29:18):
- A vision is necessary to keep people in focus and moving forward in a specific direction. The person with this gift has the ability to see Gods vision for a group.
- This person has an ability to inspire others to see and understand that vision.
- He has an ability to visualize how people can work together to accomplish a common goal.
- The person with this gift knows how to fit people to a task to get the job done efficiently. It is like putting pieces of a puzzle together. He knows who the best person for a job is.
- This person has great wisdom to know when methods need changing to keep people moving forward toward the goal.
- Criticism and Enthusiasm:
- The enthusiasm of the person with this gift enables him to endure criticism. All leaders are criticized but he handles it well.
- This person does not let criticism stop him from reaching his goal.
- Rom 12:8 says that he should do his job with zeal and singleness of mind.
- Working with People:
- The person with this gift likes to work with people. However, his motivation is not for the purpose of encouragement but to get to know the people in order to use them effectively.
- He is constantly learning how to work more effectively with people.
- The Benefits of the Gift of Ruling (Facilitating):
- This gift promotes the ease of action and operation in the body of Christ. (Tit 3:14)
- The person with this gift helps the body of Christ define and carry out its goals by providing leadership support and direction.
- This gift meets the organizational needs of the body of Christ.
- The person with this gift is the shoulders that bear the government of the body of Christ.
- The Manifestations of the Gift of Ruling (Facilitating):
- The person with this gift has the ability to see long range goals.
- This person can successfully evaluate the talents, gifts, and strengths of others so that he can coordinate available talents to the jobs that need to be done.
- This person coordinates the activities of others to effectively achieve goals.
- The Childhood Expressions of the Gift of Ruling (Facilitating):
- The child with this gift is excessively active in an outstanding way.
- This child has wide interests and a forward personality (an extrovert).
- The child with this gift tends to join clubs and organizations.
- This child will volunteer for anything.
- This child will run for school offices.
- This child has an inner drive to be first, and he is not afraid of competition.
- People generally like the child with this gift because he feels at home with people of all ages.
- The child with this gift is always busy with new plans, new ideas, and new projects.
- This child likes to subscribe to things, collect things, and enter contests.
- This child is a great planner with a systematic approach.
- This child will keep lists and may write notes to himself.
- This child may lay out his clothes a day ahead.
- This child is curious, investigative, full of questions, and mentally alert.
- Because of his mental alertness he can give the impression that he has a higher IQ than may be accurate.
- This child is free and outspoken and not easily discouraged.
- This child loves most all toys and pets.
- Older children replace toys with people, and then they may have a hard time following through with pet care.
- This child has a wide reading interest with an emphasis on adventure, action, and animal stories.

- Problem Areas and Warnings that Lead to Improving this Gift a Challenge:
- Manipulation:
- The person with this gift can become very upset if others in authority do not share his same vision or goal.
- At times this person can manipulate others to meet his own goals. When he does this, he becomes inconsiderate and will hurt others.
- This person can push people too hard and at times he can be too bossy.
- The person with this gift needs to earn the cooperation and respect of others.
- This person needs to be sure that others share his vision and goal.
- Laziness:
- Sometimes other people see this person as lazy because he usually does not do any of the work, but only directs it.
- Sometimes this person needs to work alongside the others to correct this wrong perception.
- Neglect of family:
- This person has a tendency to drive himself too hard and to be a work-a-holic. As a result, he can have a tendency to neglect his family responsibilities.
- Failure to Follow Through:
- Once a project is in progress and people are working on it, the person with this gift must continue to stay with the project until the goal is met.
- The workers need to see the enthusiasm of the person with this gift so that they, too, will remain on the job. Otherwise, the workers will think the leaders lack of interest means that the project is no longer important, and they will stop working.
