TITUS 2:1-15
LESSON #22
MAINTAINING A BALANCED CHURCH MINISTRY
MEMORY VERSE: TITUS 2:11
- IN OUR STUDY OF 1 & 2 TIMOTHY, WE LEARNED THAT IT IS IMPORTANT FOR A CHURCH TO TEACH SOUND DOCTRINE. PAUL TELLS TITUS THE SAME THING.
- READ TITUS 2:1-10 THE BALANCE OF SOUND DOCTRINE
- PRINCIPLE #55
A BALANCED CHURCH WILL HAVE ALL AGE GROUPS REPRESENTED IN THE CONGREGATION.
- IF YOUR CHURCH HAS ONLY YOUNG PEOPLE, ONLY OLD PEOPLE, ONLY EX-DRUG ADDICTS, ETC. IT IS NOT BALANCED IN THE TOTAL VISION OF ITS MINISTRY.
- WHY IS THAT IMPORTANT?
- WE NEED THE OLDER, MATURE PEOPLE TO GIVE WISDOM AND GUIDANCE. WE NEED SPIRITUALLY HEALTHY CHRISTIANS IN THE CONGREGATION TO HELP THOSE WHO ARE SPIRITUALLY UNHEALTHY. NOTICE THAT PAUL TELLS TITUS THAT THE OLDER CHRISTIANS SHOULD TEACH THE YOUNGER CHRISTIANS. IF THE OLDER CHRISTIANS ARE TEACHING THE YOUNGER CHRISTIANS, THIS WILL PRODUCE A MORE STABLE MINISTRY REGARDING DOCTRINE AND PRACTICE, AND A MORE STABLE CONGREGATION.
- SOUND DOCTRINE INCLUDES SOME VERY PRACTICAL THINGS REGARDING LIVING THE CHRISTIAN LIFE.

- 5. TEACHERS OF GOOD THINGS
- 6. TO LOVE THEIR HUSBANDS
- 7. TO LOVE THEIR CHILDREN
- 8. TO BE DISCREET (TO USE GODLY WISDOM)
- 9. TO BE KEEPERS AT HOME
- THE TAKING CARE OF FAMILY AND HOME IS TO BE A TOP PRIORITY
- 10. TO BE GOOD (KIND)
- 11. TO BE OBEDIENT TO THEIR HUSBANDS (SUBMISSIVE)
- WHAT THE CHURCH SHOULD TEACH CHRISTIANS ABOUT EMPLOYER/EMPLOYEE RELATIONSHIPS (9-10)
- 1. EMPLOYEES ARE TO BE OBEDIENT TO THEIR EMPLOYERS
- 2. TO BE PLEASING
- 3. NOT TALKING BACK TO EMPLOYERS
- 4. NOT STEALING
- 5. SHOWING FAITHFULNESS
- 6. LIVING SO OTHERS WILL KNOW YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN
- IF A CHURCH IS TEACHING SOUND DOCTRINE, THERE ARE CERTAIN THINGS THAT WILL RESULT.
- WE CAN FIND THE RESULTS OF SOUND DOCTRINE IN ACTS 2.
- READ ACTS 2:41-47
- THIS PASSAGE GIVES US THE FINGERPRINTS OF A BALANCED MINISTRY IN THE CHURCH
- 1. SOUND DOCTRINE (ACT 2:42)
- 2.FELLOWSHIP (ACT 2:42)

- 8. INFORMAL SERVICES IN HOMES (ACT 2:46)
- 9. A SPIRIT OF UNITY (ACT 2:46)
- READ TITUS 2:11-15 THE DOCTRINE OF GRACE
- PRINCIPLE #56
A CHURCH SHOULD TEACH THE GRACE OF GOD
- THE PAST ASPECTS OF GRACE: (11)
- “FOR THE GRACE OF GOD THAT BRINGETH SALVATION HATH APPEARED TO ALL MEN.” (11)
- GODS GRACE APPEARED IN THE FORM OF JESUS CHRIST. THE HOLY SPIRIT MAKES ALL MEN AWARE OF THEIR NEED OF SALVATION AT SOME POINT IN THEIR LIVES.
- WE ARE SAVED BY THE GRACE OF GOD. (EPH 2:8)
- WE ARE NOT SAVED BY GODS LOVE.
- IF WE WERE SAVED BY GODS LOVE, ALL MANKIND WOULD BE SAVED. IF THAT WERE TRUE, THEN GOD IS NOT A JUST GOD BECAUSE HE WOULD NOT PUNISH SIN.
- WE ARE NOT SAVED BY GODS MERCY.
- IF WERE SAVED BY GODS MERCY, THEN ALL MANKIND WOULD BE SAVED WITHOUT THE SACRIFICE OF HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST, ON THE CROSS.
- BECAUSE THE BELIEVER HAS BEEN SAVED BY THE GRACE OF GOD AT SOME POINT IN THE PAST, THEN THAT GRACE WILL “SHINE FORTH” AS A CHANGED LIFE.
- THE PRESENT ASPECTS OF GRACE: (12)
- IN THE PRESENT STAGE OF THE BELIEVERS LIFE, GODS GRACE IS TEACHING US HOW TO LIVE THE CHRISTIAN LIFE. GOD IS NOT REFORMING THE WORLD BUT REDEEMING THOSE PEOPLE WHO RECEIVE HIM AS THEIR LORD AND SAVIOR.
- WE NEED GODS GRACE AS WE LEARN FOR SEVERAL REASONS:
- WE FORGET WHAT WE LEARNED AND GODS GRACE FORGIVES US SO THAT WE MIGHT BEGIN AGAIN.
- WE FAIL TO LIVE WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED AND NEED GODS GRACE TO FORGIVE US SO THAT WE MIGHT BEGIN AGAIN.
- THE FUTURE ASPECTS OF GRACE: (13)
- IT IS GODS GRACE THAT WILL BRING JESUS CHRIST BACK TO THIS EARTH AT THE RAPTURE OF THE CHURCH. HIS GRACE WILL FULFILL THIS PROMISE TO US, THAT WE WILL GO TO LIVE WITH HIM FOREVER.
- SUMMARY:
- IF THE CHURCH TEACHES THE GRACE OF GOD, THEN PEOPLE ARE TAUGHT THE WAY TO ENTER THE CHRISTIAN LIFE AND BE SAVED
- IF THE CHURCH TEACHES THE GRACE OF GOD, THEN BELIEVERS UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE NOT ONLY SAVED BY GRACE, BUT WE LIVE BY GRACE AS WELL.
- IN THAT CASE, WE CAN BE PATIENT WITH OTHER BELIEVERS WHO STUMBLE AND FALL.
- IF THE CHURCH TEACHES THE GRACE OF GOD, THEN BELIEVERS GROW AND MATURE TOGETHER TO BECOME THE SPOTLESS BRIDE WHO WILL RECEIVE HER BRIDEGROOM AT THE RAPTURE.

- APPLICATION OF TITUS 2:1-15
- EVERYONE FALLS INTO THESE CATEGORIES: AN OLDER WOMAN OR AN OLDER MAN. THERE ARE ALWAYS THOSE IN THE CHURCH YOUNGER THAN YOU. THEREFORE, PAUL TELLS US TO TEACH WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED ABOUT THE CHRISTIAN LIFE TO THOSE WHO ARE YOUNGER.
- IN WHAT WAYS CAN YOU FULFILL THIS ORDER BY PAUL?
- PREPARATION FOR TITUS 3:1-15
