REVIEW: JUSTIFICATION IS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A PERSON AS RIGHTEOUS BY ACQUITTAL FROMGUILT LEGALLY AND FORMALLY SO THAT GOD’S HONOR AND INTEGRITY IS NOT COMPROMISED.

**WHAT BLESSINGS ARE THE RESULT OF JUSTIFICATION?
WE HAVE PEACE WITH GOD (1).
WE HAVE ACCESS TO GOD BY FAITH (2).
WE HAVE JOY IN HOPE (2).

**WHAT DO THESE THREE THINGS MEAN TO YOU?
JOY COMES IN THREE AREAS:
IN THE HOPE OF THE GLORY OF GOD (2).
IN TRIBULATION (3).
IN GOD HIMSELF (11).
THE CURRICULUM FOR GOD’S “UNIVERSITY OF TRIBULATION” (3-5)
TRIBULATION >>> PATIENCE (PERSEVERANCE)
PATIENCE (PERSEVERANCE) >>> EXPERIENCE (CHARACTER)
EXPERIENCE (CHARACTER) >>> HOPE

**CAN YOU EXPLAIN IN PRACTICAL TERMS HOW YOU HAVE SEEN THIS WORK IN YOUR OWN LIFE?
JUSTIFICATION IS PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE:
PAST (1)–WHEN WE ACCEPTED JESUS AS LORD WE WERE JUSTIFIED AT THAT POINT. AT JESUS’DEATH ON THE CROSS 2000 YRS. AGO, WE WERE JUSTIFIED.
PRESENT (3-5)–THROUGH TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS HE IS FORGIVING US SO THAT THE LOVE OF GODIS SHED ABROAD IN US. THAT’S THE CONTINUAL PROCESS OF GOD CONTINUALLY SEEING US ASJUSTIFIED.
FUTURE (9)–JUSTIFICATION MEANS IN THE FUTURE DAY OF JUDGMENT, I WILL BE SAVED FROM THEWRATH OF GOD AGAINST ALL UNGODLINESS.

PARALLEL ANALYSIS OF ROM 5:12-21

ADAM JESUS
SIN ENTERED (VS.12) GRACE ENTERED (VS. 15)
DEATH ENTERED (15,17) LIFE ENTERED (17-18)
JUDGMENT TO CONDEMNATION ENTERED (16,18) JUSTIFICATION ENTERED (16)
DISOBEDIENCE ENTERED (19) RIGHTEOUSNESS ENTERED (17-19)

THE CONCEPT OF ORIGINAL SIN AND ITS SOLUTION

**WHY IS THE CONCEPT OF ORIGINAL SIN IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTANDING SALVATION?
IT’S NOT JUST THE SINS WE COMMIT FOR WHICH CHRIST DIED, BUT THE SINS OF ADAM BY WHICH WEHAVE INHERITED DEATH. THIS CONCEPT IS A PART OF THE GOSPEL MESSAGE.
DEFINE TERMS:
IMPUTATION = CHARGING OR ATTRIBUTING TO YOUR ACCOUNT
VS. 13 THE IMPUTATION OF SIN

THE HISTORICAL VIEW OF ROM 5:12-21

FROM ADAM TO MOSES:

THERE WAS NO MOSAIC LAW. THEREFORE, THERE WAS NO IMPUTED SIN (IN OTHER WORDS PEOPLEDID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS SIN SO THEY COULD NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR BREAKING A LAW WHICHDID NOT EXIST.) HOWEVER, MEN WERE STILL SINNERS (ROM 5:12) AND, THEREFORE, ALL PEOPLE DIEDBECAUSE OF BEING TAINTED BY ADAM’S ORIGINAL SIN. (ROM 5:13-14)

A PROMISE OF A MESSIAH OR SAVIOR WAS GIVEN BY GOD TO ADAM IN GEN 3:15. FAITH IN THISPROMISE SAVED MEN FROM THE PENALTY OF SIN WHICH IS DEATH. GOD EXTENDED GRACE TO MANKINDFROM ADAM TO MOSES AND SAVED THEM BY FAITH.

THE PROMISE WAS REPEATED TO ABRAHAM IN GEN 12-17.

THE MOSAIC LAW CAME 430 YEARS AFTER THE PROMISE WAS GIVEN TO ABRAHAM (GAL 3:17). THELAW DID NOT REPLACE THE PROMISE BUT CAME IN ALONGSIDE IT (GAL 3:19). THE LAW ENTERED SOTHAT MAN MIGHT KNOW WHAT SIN WAS AND BECOME RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS OWN ACTIONS. THE RESULT OFTHE LAW (A SCHOOLMASTER TO TEACH ABOUT SIN) WAS THAT SIN INCREASED (ROM 5:20).

FROM MOSES TO CHRIST MAN WAS NOT ONLY TAINTED BY ORIGINAL SIN BUT ALSO CONDEMNED BY THELAW FOR HIS OWN PERSONAL SINS. THEREFORE, GOD’S GRACE MUST ABOUND MORE TO COVER BOTHORIGINAL SIN AND PERSONAL SIN (ROM 5:20).

EVEN THOUGH THE LAW CAME IN ALONGSIDE THE PROMISE, ALL OLD TESTAMENT PEOPLE WERE SAVEDBY FAITH IN THE PROMISE, NOT BY KEEPING THE LAW.

JESUS CHRIST CAME AS A FULFILLMENT OF THE ORIGINAL PROMISE GIVEN TO ADAM (GEN 3:15) ANDTO ABRAHAM (GEN 12-17). (GAL 3:16). AS A RESULT, MANY PEOPLE ARE MADE RIGHTEOUS THROUGHFAITH IN JESUS CHRIST (ROM 5:19), CAUSING GRACE TO REIGN THROUGH RIGHTEOUSNESS. (ROM 5:21)
