PSALM 31
LESSON #23
AFTER MAKING BIG MISTAKES IN LIFE

MEMORY VERSE: PSALMS 31:24

PRIMARY INTERPRETATION AND PERSONAL APPLICATION:
PSALM 31 IS DAVID’S PRAYER FOR DELIVERANCE FROM HIS PROBLEMS, AND DAVID HAD LOTS OFPROBLEMS IN HIS LIFE.
IN LIFE IT IS EASY TO MAKE MISTAKES. THAT IS WHY WE CAN SAY THAT WE ALL MAKE THEM.HOWEVER, SOME MISTAKES IN LIFE ARE MORE DEVASTATING THAN OTHER MISTAKES. SOME MISTAKESHAVE GREATER CONSEQUENCES, AND SOME MISTAKES ARE MORE ENDURING OVER TIME.
GOD HAS NOT REFRAINED FROM TELLING US ABOUT THE MISTAKES OF SOME OF THE SUPER HEROES OFTHE FAITH. IN THE BIBLE HIS SAINTS ARE NOT PERFECT. WHY HAS GOD REVEALED SO MUCH ABOUTTHEIR FAILURES? GOD RECORDS THEIR FAILURES BECAUSE IT IS PART OF THEIR LIFE MESSAGE TO US.FOR EXAMPLE:
1. GOD TELLS US ABOUT THEIR MISTAKES SO THAT WE MIGHT AVOID THE SAME MISTAKES IN OURLIVES.
2. GOD TELLS US ABOUT THEIR MISTAKES SO THAT WE MIGHT BE COMFORTED WHEN WE MAKE THE SAMEMISTAKES..
3. GOD TELLS US ABOUT THEIR MISTAKES SO WE MIGHT LEARN THE LESSONS THEY LEARNED.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MAJOR MISTAKES BIBLICAL SAINTS MADE IN LIFE?

THE FAILURE: LIMITATIONS GOD PLACED IN LIFE THAT RESTRICTED SERVICE: A REMINDER OF THE LIMITATIONS PLACED BY GOD: EACH LIMITATION WAS A BENEFIT FOR THEM AND AN INSTRUCTION FOR US:

1COR 10:11

ADAM — HE ATE THE FRUIT OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL.

GEN 3:6

THE GROUND WAS CURSED AND HE NO LONGER LIVED IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN.

GEN 3:17

SWEAT AND SORROW, HARD WORK, WEEDS AND THORNS TO EARN A LIVING.

GEN 3:17-19

A GREATER DEPENDENCE ON GOD FOR FOOD AND HEALTH.

GEN 3:6

NEW PRESSURES OF SUBMISSION TO HER HUSBAND.

PAIN AND SORROW IN CHILD BIRTH; A DESIRE TO BE THE LEADER IN THE HOME. GEN 3:16 PROTECTION UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF HER HUSBAND AND UNDER CHRIST. 1COR 11:3

PSA 51:3

.A MOTIVATION TO CONTINUAL COMMUNICATION WITH GOD. THE BOOK OF PSALMS IS THE EXAMPLE

READ PSA 31:1-12
THIS IS A GOOD PSALM FOR A PERSON MAKING LIFE’S MAJOR MISTAKES.
NO MATTER WHAT CONSEQUENCES OF SIN, NO MATTER WHAT HARDSHIP DAVID WOULD HAVE TO ENDURE, HEDETERMINED THAT HE WOULD PUT HIS TRUST IN GOD. (1-2)
GOD IS HIS STRONG ROCK.

READ 1COR 3:11
JESUS SAID TO PETER, “ON THIS ROCK I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH” (MAT 16:15-18)
IF JESUS CHRIST IS STRONG ENOUGH ON WHICH TO BUILD A CHURCH, HE IS STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLDYOU.
DAVID ASKS FOR GOD’S GUIDANCE (3):
IT IS WHEN WE ARE LIVING THROUGH MISTAKES THAT WE ESPECIALLY NEED GOD TO GUIDE US. WE NEEDHIM TO HELP US MAKE A POSITIVE MESSAGE OUT OF OUR LIVES JUST AS HE HELPED DAVID TURN ALLHIS MISTAKES INTO A POSITIVE MESSAGE.
WHAT IS A POSITIVE MESSAGE OF LIFE?
IT IS WHERE GOD TAKES THE MISTAKES AND THE SINS OF THE PAST AND USES THEM TO TOUCH OTHERPEOPLE FOR GOD.
ABRAHAM WAS CALLED THE “FRIEND OF GOD” —JAM 2:23
DAVID WAS CALLED “A MAN AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART” — ACT 13:22
FAITH IS AN ACT OF THE WILL (7)
FAITH IS NOT A FEELING.
REMEMBER WE WALK BY FAITH AND NOT BY SIGHT.
WE LOVE OTHERS NOT BECAUSE WE FEEL LIKE IT, BUT BECAUSE WE MAKE A DETERMINATION TO LIVE BYFAITH. BY AN ACT OF YOUR WILL, YOU DETERMINE THAT YOU WILL BE OBEDIENT TO GOD.
DAVID DETERMINES BY HIS WILL THAT HE WILL BE GLAD AND REJOICE EVEN THOUGH HE”FEELS” FEAR AND GRIEF (9-10)
“THOU HAST SET MY FEET IN A LARGE ROOM.” (8)
GOD GIVES US ROOM ENOUGH SO WE ARE NOT IN DANGER OF FALLING. IN OTHER WORDS, GOD GIVES USROOM TO FAIL.
JUST BECAUSE DAVID MADE BIG MISTAKES IN HIS LIFE, GOD DID NOT ABANDON HIM. FAMILY ANDFRIENDS ABANDONED HIM (11-12) BUT GOD NEVER DID. GOD USES THE MISTAKES IN OUR LIVES TOLIFT US UP AND GIVE US A LIFE MESSAGE.

VERSE 22 “I AM CUT OFF FROM BEFORE THINE EYES”
THIS WAS WHEN JESUS SAID FROM THE CROSS, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAST THOU FORSAKENME.” (MAT 27:46)

SUMMARY:
AS WE HAVE STUDIED THE PSALMS, WE HAVE SEEN THAT THEY OFTEN SPECIFICALLY RELATE TODAVID’S PERSONAL LIFE. WE HAVE SEEN THAT THEY ALSO SPECIFICALLY RELATE TO JESUSCHRIST, HIS MINISTRY AND CRUCIFIXION.

HOWEVER, WE HAVE ALSO CONSIDERED THE BROADER PERSPECTIVES:

THE PSALMS RELATE TO GOD’S PEOPLE IN GENERAL AND THEY ALSO PROPHETICALLY RELATE TOGOD’S PEOPLE IN THE FUTURE TIME OF THE TRIBULATION.
PSALM 31 HAS ALL OF THESE PERSPECTIVES.
HOWEVER, THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSPECTIVE IS:
HOW DOES IT RELATE TO YOU PERSONALLY?
1. WE MUST LEARN TO TRUST GOD NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS IN OUR LIFE.
2. WE MUST LEARN TO TRUST GOD WHILE LIVING THROUGH THE CONSEQUENCES OF OUR SINS ANDFAILURES.
3. WE MUST LEARN LIFE’S LESSONS TAUGHT BY GOD SO THAT WE CAN USE THEM TO DEVELOP ALIFE MESSAGE IN US.

HOW DO WE DEVELOP A LIFE MESSAGE?
ALLOW GOD TO USE YOUR FAILURES, YOUR MISTAKES, AND YOUR PROBLEMS TO MINISTER TO OTHERPEOPLE.
FOR EXAMPLE:
PAUL DID NOT HIDE THE FACT THAT HE HAD FAILED GOD WHEN HE PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS AND LEDSOME TO THEIR DEATH. IT IS SOMETHING EVERYONE KNEW ANYWAY. INSTEAD, PAUL ALLOWED GOD TOUSE THAT FAILURE TO PROMPT PAUL TO ZEAL TO BRING MANY PEOPLE TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF JESUSCHRIST.
GOD CAN USE YOUR MISTAKES AND FAILURES IN THE SAME WAY, IF YOU LET HIM.
